Flight 93 update: The hijacker has gained control of the cockpit
One of the local newspapers, the Johnstown Tribune Democrat, finally fact checked my claim that a person facing directly into the the giant central crescent of the Crescent of Embrace design will be facing almost exactly at Mecca. (This central crescent remains completely intact in the Bowl of Embrace redesign, which only added a few trees to the rear left of a person facing into the giant crescent.)
This fact checking is trivially easy to do. I gave reporter Kirk Swauger the address of a Muslim websit, Islam.com, that has a Mecca direction calculator. While I was on the phone with him, Kirk set the calculator to Somerset PA and clicked on "view qibla direction." He placed the resulting Mecca direction graphic over the Crescent of Embrace site-plan PDF (recreated below) and said: "Yup. It points to Mecca":
I have documented the Tribune Democrat's long resistance to fact checking my cliams, followed by its refusal publish its own fact checking of my claim that the Crescent/Bowl design has 44 inscribed memorial glass blocks emplaced along the flight path (matching the number of passengers, crew, and terrorists). But in the end the Trib-Dem finally came through. Many thanks to Kirk Swauger for checking the orientation of the crescent, and to editor Chip Minemyer for publishing it:
His claims seem to be backed up by coordinates for the direction of qibla from Somerset that can be found on Islam.com. When superimposed over the crescent in the memorial design, the midpoint points over the Arctic Circle, through Europe toward Mecca.Kirk also quoted me on the meaning of this Mecca oriented crescent:
“A crescent that Muslims face into is called a mihrab. It’s the central feature on which every mosque is built,” said Rawls, who says his book is scheduled to be released next month by World Ahead Publishing.Next month is too late. The public needs to know NOW what is in the crescent design, so World Ahead is graciously allowing me to make my final draft of Crescent of Betrayal temporarily available for free download online. Visit CrescentOfBetrayal.com to download the book, for free downloadable flyers, posters ad copy, and other supplementary materials.
The members of the Advisory Commission all know about the Islamic and terrorist memorializing features
At the Memorial Project's public meeting, I learned from Flight 93 Advisory Commission member Tim Baird that every member of the Advisory Commission is fully aware that a person facing into the giant crescent is facing almost exactly at Mecca. They don't just know that I have been trying to warn them of this basic fact for a year and a half. They all acknowledge that it is correct, even as the Memorial Project sends out spokesman after spokesman to tell the public that my claims are false and preposterous. Yet there was no outward hint of qualm as the Memorial Project announced, with numerous statements of relief and satisfaction, that the Crescent/Bowl of Embrace design has finally been approved at the highest levels of delegated authority.
They successfully blocked for the hijacker. The biggest hurdle has been cleared. Work on construction drawings begins in August, and on to the building of the memorial. As I put it to several members of the press:
The hijacker just gained control over the cockpit, and it is now the entire country that is on this hijacked airplane. It will now take a majority of the American people to stand up and say "no" to this missile, aiming to stab a terrorist memorial mosque into America's heartland.
After Tim Baird told me that everyone was aware that a person facing into the giant crescent would be facing Mecca, I asked him what else they knew:
Do they know about the separate upper section of Memorial Wall, inscribed with the 9/11 date, centered exactly on the bisector of the giant crescent, putting the date exactly in the position of the star on an Islamic crescent and star flag? Do they know about the 44 memorial glass blocks emplaced along the flight path, equaling the number of passengers, crew, and terrorists?"It's all in your report, right," said Mr. Baird. "Your report has been passed around at the meetings." He suggested that everyone has looked at it, and that everyone knows what is in it. It seems they are all just making excuses for it, including Mr. Baird.
"I won't be concerned unless you can prove intent," Baird said, "and it is impossible to prove intent." He presented this as an impenetrable redoubt, as it to say, "let's see you get past that defense." I looked at him like he was crazy. Did he not understand what he had just said: that he would not be concerned no matter what was in the design?
Mr. Baird seems to think that if intent cannot be proven, that implies that it is somehow disproven, and we have to assume that things like the Mecca orientation of the crescent are coincidence. That is nonsensical enough, but what is really nonsensical is the idea that if these features are coincidence, that makes them okay, and even makes it okay to deny and suppress the geometric facts of the design.
Again and again I said to Mr. Baird that the public needed to know about the the simple geometric facts I was pointing out, to let people decide for themselves if they were okay with a geometric replica of the central feature of a mosque being used as the central feature of the Flight 93 Memorial, whether this was by coincidence or not. Would the American people be okay with the 9/11 date being placed as the star on an Islamic crescent and star flag, even if it were by coincidence? This is for them to answer, and Baird agreed. But then he would come back to why he didn't think it really mattered, why all of this could be seen simply as less than newsworthy, rather than as a matter of suppression of crucial facts. To Baird it all came back to intent. If I can't prove intent, then according to Mr. Baird, he is not concerned, meaning he does not consider it an issue that needs to be brought out.
Other commission members at the meeting said similar and even stranger things. As one of my compatriots was walking a reverend on the Commission through our graphical displays, the reverend said: "But so what if these are mosque features? If visitors are unaware, what difference does it make?" A lawyer on the Commission told another of my compatriots why he thought that the almost exact Mecca orientation of the giant crescent had to be a coincidence. He claimed that it couldn't have been intended to honor Islam because the in-exactness of the the Mecca-orientation would be "disrespectful" to Islam.
Does this lawyer think he is an expert on what is seen as "disrespectful" in Islam? Any Muslim knows that a Mecca-direction indicator does NOT have to be exact, because traditional Islam follows the example of Muhammad, and every Muslim knows that Muhammad's mosque was not exactly oriented on Mecca. It was originally built to face Jerusalem. Only later in his career did Muhammad order his followers to change their qibla direction (their prayer direction) to face the Kaaba in Mecca. In his own mosque, Muhammad just switched the mihrab from one end of his mosque to the other, which had not been built to face Mecca. Thus when Muslims are looking for a suitable place to pray, they are allowed to face any wall that leaves them facing even very roughly towards Mecca. Practicing Muslims are all well aware of this allowance, because they have to avail themselves of it every day.
UPDATE: We have been able to positively identify this lawyer as Patrick White, Vice President of Families of Flight 93, the same person who told the press that my claims are untrue and "preposterous." In private conversation he acknowledges the almost exact Mecca orientation of the crescent and makes excuses for it. (Can't be intended because that would be disrespectful TO ISLAM!) Then he flat out lies to the press, saying that my claims have been found to be untrue. This is a FAMILY MEMBER, acting as a willing dupe. Absolutely crazy.
Architect Paul Murdoch DOES prove intent, over and over and over again
Tim Baird cannot have read my report too carefully himself, or he would know that Paul Murdoch left numerous proofs of Islamic and terrorist memorializing intent in his crescent design. For one, he exactly repeats the almost-exact Mecca orientation of the giant crescent in a second set of giant crescents that is included in the Crescent/Bowl design: the vast array of crescents of trees that surround the Tower of Voices portion of the memorial. Check out the following sequence. Here is another Mecca direction graphic:
Here is a line across the most obtruding tips of the crescents of trees that surround the Tower of Voices:
The only difference is that up at the Tower of Voices, it is the crescent tip line that points 1.8 degrees north of Mecca. For the central crescent, it is the perpendicular bisector of the crescent tip line that points 1.8 degrees north of Mecca. To see repitition graphically, just overlay the imagesm, without rotating either:
This near-Mecca orientation is one of the many proofs that architect Paul Murdoch provides that both are intentional. His Islamic and terrorist memorializing features point to each other again and again. His clear purpose is to be able to prove his accomplishment once it is a fait accompli. I cannot say anything about Murdoch's motivation, but I CAN prove intention because HE has proved intention, over and over and over again. You have to read Crescent of Betrayal to see the full horrific magnitude of what Murdoch is attempting to stab into America's heartland, and at every step he makes sure to leave voluminous proofs of intent. He is out for victory, and he will not be denied by the willful blindness of people like Tim Baird.
The only thing that is going to stop Murdoch is a willingness to grasp harsh truths, as exampled by the ordinary heroes of Flight 93, who learned from the ground that America was under attack, and acted as love required. Out of that spirit of truth and love, a proper memorial will rise. Only truth can soar.

Full color half-page ad, published in the Somerset Daily American, 8/3/2007. Ends with an appeal for the people of Somerset to ask their local newspapers to fact check my explosive claims. If my claims are false, I need to be exposed as a dispicable fraud who should be shamed out of public life. If I am correct, then we are all on Flight 93 and the people damn well need to get their phone call from the ground telling them that planes are flying into buildings. The operators, the information gate-keepers, the editors, are hanging up the phone calls! That is not their job.
Some editors to contact:
Brian Whipkey, editor of the Somerset American Daily.
Chip Minemyer editor of the Johnstown Tribune Democrat.
Frank L. Craig editor of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
A reader sends along his message to the editors. Awesome:
I just wanted to thank you for obsessively sticking to your guns and going ahead with the memorial glorifying the Islamic Martyrs in their ongoing fight against the infidels in the House of War.
The passengers did not 'win' and, as you clearly know, do not deserve any memorial. It is the Jihadists who must be memorialized and celebrated; they won by killing all the passengers. They will have their reward from Allah!
Your efforts to celebrate the religion of the Mujahadeen are well noted. You have accepted dawa and this is your first jizya. It is acceptable to Allah that you celebrate the masterful battles of the modern jihad.
You have modeled your memorial on the Cresent of Allah and you have even properly positioned it so it directs one to face the holy site for prayer. It cannot be an accident.
You newspaper people are very smart to acccept the dawa and begin paying the jizya this way. You must all submit to the will of Allah.
Please continue fighting for the celebration of the martyrs and forget those stupid infidels who were taken by Allah's warriors.
You are just like the admirable newscaster on the Simpsons who said, "I, for one, welcome our new … overlords".
Sincerely,
Mohammad al Ameriki

Tribune Democrat abusing Families of Flight 93
For those who are not up to speed, here is graphical proof (for the umpteenth time) that a person facing into the giant central crescent of the Flight 93 Memorial (red arrow) is facing Mecca:
For more than a year, several other western Pennsylvania newspapers have also known about the Mecca orientation of the giant crescent (which remains completely intact in the superficially altered Bowl of Embrace redesign). All have refused to report their own fact checking. This last Monday, the Johnstown Tribune Democrat added to the list of bad behavior.
To force the Tribune Democrat to report on my expose of the terrorist memorializing design, I bought ads, promising conflict at the Memorial Project's upcoming public meeting. Again, they refused to report their own fact checking. In the Tribune story, my claim of Mecca orientation is rebutted by Patrick White, Vice President of the Families of Flight 93, who claims that my charges have been investigated and been found to be untrue and "preposterous," and that's all the Tribune reports. They say nothing about who is right, despite the fact that it is trivially easy to fact-check the orientation of the crescent, and despite the fact that the Tribune's reporter DID fact-check the orientation of the crescent.
I discussed my graphical analyses with reporter Kecia Bal while she had my high resolution map of the site plan on her computer screen. She had no trouble understanding the graphical proof of Mecca orientation excerpted above. When she asked me how it was possible that these revelations had not been reported before, I gently reminded her that I had tried to get her and other reporters to check and report on the facts the year before, instead of just seeking comment. When there is a fact-based controversy, reporters are supposed to check the facts and report who is right. "Just don't let anyone keep you from doing your job," I urged her. "Check my claims and report your findings." And she was doing it, asking me for the original Crescent of Embrace PDF's so she could verify the locations of the 44 glass blocks on the flight path (matching the number of passengers, crew, and terrorists.)
I also told Kecia how the Memorial Project has been misleading the families. In an April 2006 Conference call, Project Superintendent Joanne Hanley explained to me why she wasn't worried about the Mecca orientation of the giant crescent. "It's not exact," she told me. "That's one we talked about. It has to be exact." (Download 3, page 145.) At the same time that she was admitting to me the almost exact orientation of the giant crescent, she was telling the families that my information had been debunked.
Patrick White's denial of the Mecca orientation of the crescent proves that the families are still being misled. Kecia knows for a fact that White is misinformed, yet she goes along with this horrible abuse of the families. If graphical analysis showed that I was in error, the Tribune Democrat would publish it in a heartbeat. Since it shows that I am right, the Tribune decides to withold its own fact checking, only reporting that the Flight 93 families are accusing me of propagating known falsehoods.
That is grossly irresponsible. If the Tribune does not want to help tackle the hijacker, at least they should not block for him, and they certainly should not use known-to-be-misled family members to do it.
I am guessing that the culprit is not Kecia, but is Tribune editor, Chip Minemyer. I am sure that Minemyer has known about what is in the crescent design since February 2006, because he assured me on the phone at that time that he had looked at my graphics and my analysis and had assigned a reporter to investigate my information. That fact checking (Kirk Swauger wrote the Tribune Democrat's report that time) was never published. Swauger's report, like Bal's, only cites my claim of Mecca-orientation (which is only the beginning of what I gave to the Tribune Democrat), and follows it with a claim by a family member that my information has been thoroughly investigated and debunked.
Minemyer has been suppressing what he knows to be newsworthy evidence of Islamic and terrorist memorializing design features for a year and a half. Whatever his motivation, it seems that he is now doubling down. He knows he will be ruined if it comes out that he has been suppressing this information, so he suppresses it with even more determination.
If Kecia wants to send me her news report as she wanted to write it, I will be glad to help clear her name by publishing it here. In our conversation, Kecia seemed to think that the Tribune should publish my high resolution map of the terrorist memorializing design features. Send me your unpublished fact-checking Kecia, and we'll show 'em what real reporting is. (Ditto for Kirk.)
My next step is to publish my high resolution color map in the Somerset Daily American, along with an expose of how the Tribune Democrat suppressed its own fact checking in order to use known-to-be-misled family members to block for the hijacker. No, I don't have the money for such a large color ad, but I am throwing my body at this. Somebody has to tackle the damned hijacker, and if I can't get help, I will most certainly do it myself.
(Thanks to Bill Steiner, Ace of Spades, and all those others who have been trying to help.)

New book exposes the planned Flight 93 Memorial to be a terrorist memorial mosque
Left image: a traditional Islamic sundial (photo © Germán Moreno, 2006). The shadow has just reached the outer curved vertical, indicating time for Islamic afternoon prayers. The image on the right is the Tower of Voices portion of the planned Flight 93 Memorial. It is also an Islamic sundial. Shadow calculations confirm that, on any day of the year, when the Tower shadow reaches the inner arc of trees, it will be time for Islamic afternoon prayers.
This is just one of many Islamic and jihadist features hidden (and not so hidden) in what was originally called the Crescent of Embrace design. I spent much of 2006 trying to get the Flight 93 Memorial Project to come to grips with this information. My book about the crescent design, and about the dysfunctional Memorial Project that has allowed it to proceed (Crescent of Betrayal), will arrive in bookstores at the end of August.
That is not soon enough to put pressure on the Memorial Project’s upcoming public meeting (July 28th, 2007). Given the urgent public need to know what is in the design before the meeting, my publisher (World Ahead) has agreed to let me make my final draft available for free download until the print edition of the book comes out.
This is very generous of World Ahead. They understand how crucial it is that the alarm be raised before the July 28th meeting, so that if the design is affirmed, it will be in the face of controversy, and will not automatically achieve unstoppable momentum.
A terrorist memorial mosque?
You heard right. Mosque design involves about a dozen typical mosque features. All are realized in the original Crescent of Embrace design, all on the same epic scale as the Tower of Voices minaret-sundial. All remain completely unchanged in the superficially altered Bowl of Embrace redesign.
Here is another giant mosque feature. Face into the half mile wide central crescent (still present in the Bowl of Embrace redesign) to face Mecca:
This overlay is my elaboration of a graphic put together by Sarah Wells at the blumerle blog on September 10, 2005, three days after the crescent design was unveiled. The “qibla direction” shown here in green was generated by a Muslim website (Islam.com). It shows the direction to Mecca from Somerset PA, ten miles from the crash site. You can tell just by looking that a person facing directly into the giant crescent is facing almost exactly at Mecca.
A crescent that Muslims face into to face Mecca is called a "mihrab," and is the central feature around which every mosque is built. Here is the mihrab of the Great Mosque in Cordoba Spain:
Most mihrabs are three dimensional, giving the direction to Mecca both through their depth dimension and the orientation of their facade. The mihrab in the Flight 93 Memorial is two dimensional, like a giant Muslim prayer rug (called a "musalla," translated "small mosque"). Just as the Tower of Voices is the world's largest Islamic sundial by a factor of several hundred, so too is the giant crescent the world's largest mihrab and/or prayer rug by a factor of several hundred.
The only change in the Bowl of Embrace redesign was to add some trees behind the giant crescent ("behind" being from the perspective of a person facing into the crescent). This has no effect on the presence or integrity of the giant mihrab/prayer rug, any more than it makes a difference whether a prayer rug is placed in front of some trees. A mihrab, whether standing or in the form of a prayer rug, is a self contained religious construct. It should be placed in a clean and decent place, suitable for prayer, but other than that it is unaffected by what is around it.
What you can do to help stop this abomination
First, read at least part of the book. See how evil this design really is. (How are the terrorists memorialized? There is a separate upper section of Memorial Wall, centered on the bisector of the giant crescent, placing it in the exact position of the star on an Islamic crescent and star flag. Inscribed on this separate section of Memorial Wall is the date: September 11, 2001. The date goes to the star on the crescent and star flag. The date goes to the terrorists.)
If you are looking for people to harangue, there is no point in inundating the Memorial Project anymore. They know what is in the design and just make excuses for it. A better target for some friendly contact would be the local newspapers, who have never investigated my information, despite my repeated urgings. A blogstorm might make a difference there. Some candidates:
Brian Whipkey, editor of the Somerset American Daily.
Chip Minemyer edits the Johnstown Tribune Democrat.
Frank L. Craig edits the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
Be nice to them. One thing you have to understand about this story is that the Memorial Project told the Flight 93 families that my information had been debunked, even as Project leaders were acknowledging to me in private that it was correct. ("It has to be exact," Project Superintendent Joanne Hanley told me in April 2006, explaining why she wasn't worried about the giant crescent, oriented almost exactly on Mecca: "That's one we talked about. It has to be exact." She KNOWS it is almost exact and is willfully blind about the implications.) The upshot is that, through no fault of their own, the families all think I am some kind of malicious liar. Sympathy for the families then translates into antipathy for me, and the reporters are not immune to that.
Not that all of them are innocent. I learned from Post-Gazette reporter Paula Reed Ward that the editors of the Post Gazette knew about the Mecca orientation of the Crescent of Embrace back in September 2005, and decided to keep it mum. (Download 3, page 108.) If you want to give them an earful, here are their phone numbers.
The FBI could also be worth contacting. I have contacted them a couple of times myself, but have no indication that they are paying any attention to this enemy plot. A few redundant tips to their tip page might be warranted.
A chance to light a fire in the old media via ad buys
There is also a chance for you to achieve something unprecedented here, if you happen to have deep enough pockets. I have put together some print ads that graphically expose the terrorist memorializing features of the crescent design. The idea is to run them in Pennsylvania newspapers in the run-up to the July 28th meeting. Ad readers are then given the address of the website, where those who themselves have deep pockets can again download the ad copy and take it to other newspapers for publication. If the design is affirmed, this seeding of awareness of what is in the design, and the means to protest, could create an avalanche.
The low cost of online communication has allowed all kinds of silly things to "go viral" online. Is the importance of stopping a terrorist memorial from being built on the Flight 93 crash site enough to overcome the old media cost barrier and create the first viral transmission of content through the commercial press?
It should be. How many times in life will a person get a chance to help tackle a hijacker? I've devoted over a year to this, so you can tell where I come down.
One ad uses the above side by side images of the Tower of Voices and the traditional Islamic sundial. These images both come out well in black and white, and the file is a PDF, so it can be printed in different sizes. At two column widths (3.75 inches) it will cost about $300 to run in a medium sized newspaper. At three column widths (5.75 inches), about $700. Small newspapers are about half as much. Large papers maybe five times as much.
This is serious money, but an ad buy isn't just an ad buy. It is a chance to possibly start a chain reaction and go viral in the old media, reaching beyond the relatively small portion of the population that has discovered the fact checking of the alternate media.
For those of us without deep pockets, CrescentOfBetrayal.com also has downloadable flyers and posters that anyone can print out and post. These are based on a high resolution map of the site plan. Superimposed is the Mecca orientation of the giant crescent and other key information. The 300dpi 11 x 17's look awesome on Kinko's matte or glossy cardstock ($3 a pop). Put one on your wall today!
In case anyone has really deep pockets, I have also formatted the 11x17 poster as a large color ad (ready for CMYK printing, as newspapers require). The information on the posters and the large ad is both startling and detailed. If we can get this into western Pennsylvania newspapers, knockout. But this is serious money: $4,500 for a medium size paper.
Neither I or my publisher will make a penny off the book throughout the period of greatest controversy. Our most interested readers are all going to get the book for free. Whether there will be any market left after that, we don't know, and are not weighing. All that is secondary to stopping this hijacking.
The one thing that anybody can do is take a look, and that is all it takes to verify conclusively the basic facts that I am asserting. There is no reason to be left wondering if these claims are for real. If you want to take more than a look, if you want to read the whole crazy story, it is there for the downloading.
